Adelaide Comics 101
New to comics? New to Adelaide? New to both? These resources will get you up to speed.
Read more comics!
New
Adelaide is home to several dedicated comic shops and bookstores that stock graphic novels:
Secondhand
These secondhand bookshops often have used trade paperbacks and graphic novels (Gamma Rays Comics and Adelaide Comics Centre also sell back issues)
Webcomics
If you prefer your comics free, you can also read them online. Here are some webcomics created in South Australia:
Libraries
The South Australian library system includes a wealth of graphic novels of all types and for all ages. With the One Card network, SA library customers can now use any of the more than 130 public libraries across SA with a single card, and have access to over 3.7 million items.

Support groups
Not a comics workshop or ‘how-to’ class so much as a monthly meeting of like-minded folk who enjoy drawing comics or want to start. From 6:30pm on the third Monday of each month at the Box Factory Community Centre, Adelaide.
Private teaching and other workshops
These local artists offer either group workshops or private tutoring (or both) for groups and individuals who want to learn how to make comics:
Other workshops or courses may be offered from time to time through Writers SA, WEA Adult Learning, schools, public libraries and other organisations. Keep your eyes peeled, or follow Cartooning Workshops Around Australia on Facebook for updates.
Talk about comics!
Adelaide Ladies Comic Club meets each month on the 1st Sunday to talk about a specific comic book from their reading list.
