Allan Scott Auditorium access information
Location: Hawke Building, 55 North Terrace, UniSA City West campus.
The Allan Scott Auditorium is on the UniSA City West Campus. This is where Papercuts will host Talking Pictures on Friday 12 September 2025, from 6:15–8:30pm.
The first half of the content is family-friendly, the second half may contain more adult content, with an interval between. People can leave as they need to throughout the event.
ENTRY AND EXIT
The entrance to the Allan Scott Auditorium is via smooth concrete ramps around the campus.
From North Terrace, there is a step-free path to the left of the stairs next to the Hawke Centre.
From Hindley Street, there is a sloped path down towards the Hawke Centre, and a ramp to the left of the stairs as you approach.
External doors
The entrance to the building itself is via wide, automatic glass doors. As you enter, there are bathrooms to your left, and a concrete ramp ahead of you to enter the Auditorium. Everyone uses the same entrance.
The flooring here is concrete.
Internal doors
There are two sets of large double swing doors to enter the Auditorium. These will be open, and Papercuts volunteers will be around to assist as needed.
The flooring here is carpet.
COMMUNAL SPACES
Layout
The Auditorium is a large lecture theatre, with projected screens at the front (‘the stage’) and rows of tiered seating for the audience.
Seating
Most of the seating is accessed via steps between rows of seats. The front row is on the ground level; this is reserved for people with mobility aids or anyone who needs a step-free seat, and their companions.
Some of the spots in the front row have no seat, only room for a wheelchair. Some have seats installed, but the seats can be stowed away.
Separate accessible seating
The mezzanine level can only be accessed through the Kerry Packer gallery. This is impractical, so we will be encouraging people with mobility aids to take the front rows. However, if the room is full and people require the accessible seating on the mezzanine, Papercuts volunteers can lead people through the Hawke building, up the lift to the Kerry Packer Gallery, and through to the mezzanine. This will require a staff swipe card after hours.
Hearing loop / Auslan
A hearing loop is available in the Auditorium. Equipment will be available on the night, but if you have a large group of people who will be using the hearing loop, let us know beforehand, either when booking your tickets or via our contact form: https://www.papercutscomicsfestival.com/contact/.
All presenters will be using microphones, and there are options for handheld or lapel mics.
Auslan interpretation will be provided for the entire presentation.
BATHROOMS
There are three bathrooms accessible from the foyer – men’s, women’s, and accessible.
The men’s and women’s are accessed via large, heavy swing doors.
The men’s has three stalls, including an ambulant stall with left-hand handrail, and three separated urinals. There are sinks with clearance space underneath and a hand dryer.
The women’s has five stalls, including an ambulant stall with left-hand handrail. There are sanitary bins in the stalls. The hand dryer is button-operated, and there is a sharps bin. There are sinks with clearance space underneath.
The accessible toilet is accessed via a door that pushes open, but swivels on an angle 1/3rd of the way into the door, then pushes to the side. The toilet has a left-hand handrail. There is a sink with clearance underneath and a low hand dryer. There is also a small shower here with a bench and handrail.
WAYFINDING
Outside the venue will be an A-frame directing people to the entrance. There will be Papercuts volunteers around to assist anyone with wayfinding.
