Various emerging and established comics creators… and YOU!
Calling South Australian comic creators of all styles and skill levels! You’re invited to get together with like-minded folk and draw comics, swap tips and share snacks at Comics with Friends and Strangers!
Not a comics workshop or ‘how-to’ class so much as a meeting of people who enjoy drawing comics or want to start, Comics with Friends and Strangers began in June 2013 and has been held every month since then. It received the 2014 Express Media Award for Best New Project by a young person or for young people in South Australia, and attendees range from established professional cartoonists to emerging artists creating comics for the very first time.
The September meeting will tie into the wider Papercuts Comics Festival, but this invitation extends to all meetings, before and after the festival.
Comics with Friends and Strangers takes place from 6:30pm on the third Monday of each month at the Box Factory Community Centre (59 Regent St South, Adelaide). There’s an optional activity each month, but you’re also always welcome to come and work on your own project instead if you’d prefer. There are also treats, chatting and heaps of fun to be had. We’d love to see your faces (and snacks) there. Don’t forget to bring your own drawing supplies! (Power outlets are available for those who work digitally.)
Comics with Friends and Strangers is aimed at a maturer audience and may contain coarse language.
For more information and photos of past meetings and activities, visit the Comics with Friends and Strangers Instagram account or Facebook page.
